Selected for Innovation Radar Award

Proudly reflecting on a successful year, we have mastered numerous challenges and executed innovative projects. We are particularly pleased that QubeDot has been selected for the prestigious Innovation Radar Award by the European Commission.

The Innovation Radar is an initiative to identify promising innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. In the analysis conducted by the Innovation Radar last year, our SMILE technology, developed as part of the EU-funded SMILE project, received a positive evaluation.

Our product, the SMILE platform, is based on this innovation. SMILE stands for ‘Structured Micro Illumination Light Engine’ and offers a ready-to-use microLED array with various pixel numbers & sizes, wavelengths, and intensities. The light sources can be conveniently controlled directly from a computer via USB. The SMILE platform includes a customized microLED chip, electronics, housing, and a graphical user interface for seamless control.

Native-InGaN red microLEDs made by QubeDot

QubeDot has achieved a significant milestone by successfully developing native-InGaN red microLEDs!

Red microLEDs are of course essential for rendering the colour red on all kinds of screens, whether in TVs, smartphones, or smartwatches. The development of InGaN-based red microLEDs demands a high-level understanding of the needed epitaxy and chip processing, which we demonstrate every day at QubeDot.

The potential applications of red microLEDs are diverse, spanning from high-resolution displays to cutting-edge medical imaging systems and AR glasses.

We are thrilled to explore new horizons in collaboration with our customers and to drive the adoption of our tailor-made microLED solutions.

QubeDot is a finalist for the DurchSTARTer Award

We are thrilled to announce that we are among the top 3 finalists for the NBank DurchSTARTer Award!

The DurchSTARTer Award recognizes innovative ideas and business concepts from startups and young companies in Lower Saxony – and we are proud that our microLED technology, commitment, and innovative strength have been included in this esteemed selection.

A heartfelt thank you goes to QubeDot’s founders, Jan Gülink and Heiko Brüning, whose exceptional performance at the pitch event in the “Science Spin-Off” category brought us here.

We are already looking forward to the exciting award ceremony on December 6 and learning more about the other outstanding finalists.

Introducing our revolutionary microLED-platform SMILE

SMILE is an acronym for “Structured Micro Illumination Light Engine” and comprises our microLED-array in a ready-to-use format with different pixel numbers and sizes, wavelengths and intensities.
Our light sources are conveniently controlled directly from the computer via USB. The SMILE-platform includes a customized microLED chip, electronics, housing, and a graphical user interface for seamless control.

Our software enables the user to construct lighting patterns in a very convenient way. The graphical user interface provides the possibility of calibrating the array and adjusting the voltage. In addition, this interface allows the saving and loading of sequences and animations; and provides image and measurement windows for various use areas. An application programming interface allows the SMILE-platform control to be integrated into scrips and applications such as Matlab, LabView and Python.

SMILE-platform at a glance:
– Controllable light field 8 x 8 pixels of 75 µm size
– MicroLEDs individually controllable by software with up to 16 kHz
– Easy setup to create desired light patterns
– Robust housing, direct integration in optical path possible
– Ready for immediate use with GUI and USB cable

Customized microLEDs for demanding applications – Webinar

Thanks to PhotonicNet GmbH we are pleased to present a special webinar on the topic of customized microLEDs for demanding applications for sensors, machine vision, and displays.

The online webinar will be taking place on March 28, 2023 at 2 pm.

Light-emitting diodes based on InGaN have established themselves as the dominant light source for applications ranging from general lighting to automotive. In contrast to large-scale HighPower-LEDs, microLEDs with dimensions of 1 µm are becoming increasingly interesting, mainly driven by the fact that they are the main contender for the “next generation” displays. In addition to this focus application, numerous further applications are only enabled by the precise LED arrangement at simultaneously high intensities and switching speeds.

Our CTO, Jan Gülink, who is responsible for the development of microLED solutions and platforms based on the InGaN material system with high intensities and modulation bandwidths at QubeDot, will host the webinar.

The webinar will provide a general overview of LEDs including the special properties of microLEDs, selected application examples will be presented and in the final open exchange questions and first ideas of the participants can be discussed.
